Premium superyacht visitor management Connectivity-resilient gangway workflow Guided setup for serious vessel deployments
Setup & hardware

The practical operating setup for a calm first deployment.

Deckpass works best with a simple, premium, operationally sensible station setup rather than a messy pile of optional kit.

Recommended printer path

Start with the simplest reliable route: a compact direct-thermal printer already working on the setup device.

  • Best default: Brother QL-style compact label printer
  • Also workable: Zebra desktop printer when it already prints cleanly from the local device
  • Deckpass now supports local printer discovery, saved printer profiles, preview, and test print

Recommended badge posture

Deckpass is aiming at practical person badges, not oversized warehouse labels.

  • Recommended default: compact stick-on badge around 62 × 30 mm
  • Good for premium gangway use: readable, wearable, and fast to hand over
  • Oversized 105 × 153 mm Zebra stock should be treated as stock-check media, not the normal people badge

Simple station checklist

  • Tablet, iPad, Windows laptop, or Mac as the primary station device
  • Reliable local network or vessel Wi-Fi
  • Camera-capable device or scanner support for live check-in flow
  • Spare badge rolls or labels kept at the station

What most teams should choose in setup

If the printer already appears in the normal print list on the setup device, choose This printer already works on this computer in Deckpass.

For most vessels, the main priority is a calm live station for new arrivals, returning people, badge handling, and clear onboard status. CSV import is optional support for busier periods, not the main workflow.

Setup posture

  • Keep one primary arrival station
  • Use Setup & Settings to configure workspace, badge & printer, scanner, arrival rules, and go-live checks
  • Generate a badge preview and run a test print before first live arrivals
  • Make sure new arrivals and returning people can be processed quickly at the station
  • Use CSV import only when a busier contractor period makes roster preloading worthwhile
