Setup & hardware

The practical operating setup for a calm first deployment.

Deckpass works best with a simple, premium, operationally sensible station setup rather than a messy pile of optional kit.

Remote setup assistance included: we can configure the vessel profile, Local Bridge, scanner and photo path, printer profile, badge preview, and first operator workflow remotely. The final physical printer test is completed onboard.

Recommended printer path

Use a Brother QL-compatible direct-thermal printer with the recommended Deckpass label stock.

  • Recommended printer class: Brother QL-style direct thermal
  • Recommended media: Brother DK-11202 62 × 100 mm die-cut labels
  • Zebra and compact Brother formats remain supported alternatives

Recommended badge posture

The portrait layout keeps identity, host or company, QR code, and an optional visitor photo clear.

  • Recommended default: Brother DK-11202 62 × 100 mm label stock
  • Photo-on and photo-off layouts use the available space cleanly
  • Oversized 105 × 153 mm Zebra stock should be treated as stock-check media, not the normal people badge

Simple station checklist

  • Windows tablet, Mac, Linux host, iPad, or other camera-capable station device
  • Reliable local network or vessel Wi-Fi
  • Deckpass Local Bridge or host connected to the installed printer queue
  • Camera and/or hardware scanner tested before badge setup
  • Spare DK-11202 rolls kept at the station

Truthful local printer discovery

A browser cannot inspect printers by itself. The Deckpass Local Bridge or onboard host reads the queues installed in Windows, macOS, or Linux and dispatches print jobs locally.

When a Brother QL queue is detected, Deckpass recommends the Brother QL printer class with DK-11202 stock. Manual queue entry remains available when automatic discovery cannot identify the printer.

Recommended setup order

  • 1. Save the vessel workspace
  • 2. Connect the Local Bridge or onboard printer host
  • 3. Test the scanner and photo-capture path
  • 4. Choose the printer and DK-11202 label stock
  • 5. Review the exact photo-on or photo-off badge preview
  • 6. Complete a physical print and QR scan test
